ListServ Lists

ListServ lists are used to run discussions on particular topics, share organizational information and the like. An advantage to ListServ lists is that they are pretty much self-managing; users add or remove their own email addresses from the list simply by sending a message to listserver@whoomail.com.

When your ListServ list is established, we assign a list server email address to your account. This can be an address at one of our domains, or we can host your custom domain name. All messages sent to this address will be delivered to all the members of your list (if the sender is a member of list).

What level of service is right for you? For example, if your list has 100 members, and they each sent 20 messages a month to the list, that's 2,000 outgoing messages in that month. Do the math and decide which plan is best for your needs! ListServ Lists are a great solution for creating information sharing lists for clubs, organizations and brain trusts.

You cannot add addresses to a ListServ List manually, it is strictly an opt-in list. If you need to do mass mailing, please consider using our fast and efficient Bulk Emailing service.

The Unsubscribe and Subscribe methods used by the Whoomail ListServ lists subscription system employ a 2nd level confirmation email to assist in avoiding automated additions to the listing, helping to maintain the integrity of your opt-in list.
  • To ADD your email address to a particular list, send a message to listserver@whoomail.com from the address to be added with the following line at the top of the message body:

    SUBSCRIBE ListName
    ListName is the name of the mailing list you want to subscribe to. If the server finds the appropriate list, it automatically retrieves your email address, and returns a confirmation request to that address, requesting a reply within 24 hours. If you reply, the server adds your address to the specified mailing list, and sends you a welcome message.

  • To REMOVE your email address send a message to listserver@whoomail.com from the address to be removed with the following line at the top of the message body:

    UNSUBSCRIBE ListName
    Similar to SUBSCRIBE command, this command is used if you want to be removed from a particular list. The server performs similarly to the subscribe command by requesting a confirmation. If you confirm the deletion within 24 hours, you are removed from the list, and sent a final goodbye confirmation message.

    If you need to remove an address and no longer have access to that mailbox to unsubscribe, send a message to webmaster@whoomail.com with the name of the list, the email address to be removed and the particular circumstances which prevent your accessing the mailbox in question.
Note: We are a hosting service. We do not rent or sell any email addresses, either from the contact information that you collect or any other sources.
